Meet You Outside

Meet You Outside Fraser Valley! August is here and we are all craving the beautiful outdoors! This summer, like the rest of this year, certainly has had its challenges and differences. There are a lot of new things to consider when heading out on almost any day trip or adventure this year. This month’s article is designed to support you in getting outside while considering physical distancing, park passes, and planning for your amazing summer day trips!

With BC Parks implementing their park pass system while reopening some of the most popular parks you may find yourself planning your day trips a little differently.  To access the parks with day passes, our top tip is to start your day early. Here is what you need to know:

BC Park passes are REQUIRED for these 6 parks, though for some it does not include every trail:

  1. Garibaldi – 1 pass per person (up to 8 people per booking)
  2. Cypress – 1 pass per person (up to 8 people per booking)
  3. Mount Seymour – 1 pass per person (up to 8 people per booking)
  4. Stawamus Chief – 1 pass per person (up to 8 people per booking)
  5. Golden Ears – 1 pass per Vehicle (of up to 8 people) – Specific areas only
  6. Mount Robson – 1 pass per Vehicle (of up to 8 people) – Berg Lake Trail

Please see their website for specific trails, as some of these parks have other trails (for example, Golden Ears) that are fully open and do not require day passes. These other trails are excellent options for getting out in less busy areas.

If you are looking to spend the night in the backcountry, the website also specifies whether a day pass is required or not. In brief, anyone camping at Stawamus Chief, Mt Seymour, and Cypress must have a day pass.

Day passes can be reserved as of 6:00am on the day of their intended use. You book these through Discover Camping. Be sure to set up your account prior to the day of your trip and day pass booking so you are quick to go through the process when trying to book your day. Lastly, passes can be obtained in most areas for morning or afternoon time slots. Please plan accordingly to respect the time slots for use.

Local Regional Parks – Meet You Outside

For closures and park status please always be sure to check the BC parks website: http://bcparks.ca/?v=20200812956

Now let’s look at more of the local options in the Fraser Valley, since that is what we are all about! As many of our parks do not require day passes we may see increased volume, so here are a few trails that are suitable to various levels and have options for going almost any distance! We have chosen these as they are also considered family friendly.  These are trails that are wider and allow for physical distancing while passing others on the trail:

  1. Aldergrove Lake Regional Park, Aldergrove
  2. Campbell Valley Regional Park, Langley
  3. Chilliwack Community Forest, Chilliwack
  4. Derby Reach Regional Park, Langley
  5. Discovery Trail, Abbotsford
  6. Matsqui Trail, Abbotsford

We hope you have a chance to enjoy the amazing outdoor opportunities in the Fraser Valley. Despite having to think about things a little bit differently this year there are still many great places to go and safe ways to explore. We will Meet You Outside!
