Stream Health Field Workshop

Join us for a benthic macroinvertebrate survey at our Windebank Creek property. During this interactive workshop you’ll learn about the little lifeforms living on the bottom of the stream and how they are crucial indicators of stream health.

Our workshop instructor will be Kassa Dueck, a staff member from the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve.

Come learn how to protect and monitor the health of urban streams and aquatic habitats where salmon still spawn and migrate through. This survey will teach you how to detect early warning signs of pollution and water contamination.

We’ll be getting up close and personal with benthic macroinvertebrates, which are small organisms without backbones, like insects, worms, and crustaceans, that live in or near the sediment at the bottom of rivers, streams, or wetlands.

We will provide all necessary equipment, as well as refreshments.

Please dress in closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and long pants, as we will be by a stream with a lot mosquitos and plant debris present.

Children are welcome as long as they come with parental supervision!

We’ll be meeting at our Windebank Creek property, which is beside Embers BBQ House, at the end of Logan Ave.

The event is finished.
