DOGS RESCUED FROM NATURAL DISASTERS AND OVERCROWDED
SHELTERS HOPING FOR NEW LEASE ON LIFE
Langley, BC – Every dog wants to feel safe and loved, but for some a safe home and a family to love them is nothing more than a dream. When natural disasters strike, or when shelters get so horribly overcrowded that they’re reduced to euthanizing puppies, life is nothing but despair. But for 45 lucky dogs, there is new hope.
“Rescue groups in Taiwan beg us to help because they are overrun with dogs,” said Leslie Fee, President and Founder of Embrace a Discarded Animal Society. “These lost souls come from a place where dogs’ lives are simply not valued.”
The Taiwan dogs, along with dogs who escaped recent natural disasters in the U.S. and were pulled from overcrowded high kill shelters in Texas, California and as far away as Louisiana, will be at Embrace’s adoption event this weekend at PetSmart Langley. They’re hoping to find loving local families who will make their dreams come true and give them the forever homes they deserve.
“Langley will be one of our biggest events of the year,” continued Fee. “We will have over 45 gorgeous dogs available for adoption, including some local dogs who were surrendered to us by their owners after they became too ill to care for them.”
Embrace also has 40 beautiful kittens housed in permanent catteries at three other PetSmart locations – High Street in Abbotsford, Croydon in White Rock, and Canoe Pass in Tsawwassen.
Lower Mainland residents who are interested in adopting a dog are invited to come out to the Langley adoption event November 9-11 to meet them. Applicants can complete an application on the society’s website www.embracesociety.ca in advance of the event, or at the store during the event. Selected applicants will be interviewed, and a home check will be done before being approved to adopt.
Applicants interested in adopting a kitten can visit the Abbotsford, White Rock or Tsawwassen PetSmart stores. In store interviews will be conducted before being approved to adopt.
“It’s National Adoption Weekend. We encourage everyone to come out this weekend and meet our gorgeous dogs and kittens,” said Fee. “We will work with qualified applicants to match the right people with the right pet.”

Embrace a Discarded Animal Society is a registered Canadian charity which has been involved in the rescue, transport, and rehoming of small breed dogs since 2012. Over 200,000 dogs are euthanized in California alone each year. Caring shelter managers know they must send dogs to other geographical areas to save their lives. There are just too many dogs pouring into their shelters every day. Embrace, along with many other rescue organizations in Canada and the Northwest USA, take in these dogs and find them wonderful homes. By working together, we can save lives.
