Abbotsford Police Department was established in 1955 as the Matsqui Police Department and was renamed in 1995 when Matsqui and Abbotsford united as one to become the City of Abbotsford. The force is divided into 6 branches; Patrol, Criminal Investigation, Finance & Budget, Human Resources, Operations Support, and Support Services, together they have over 300 employees.

In Abbotsford there is a Citizens’ Patrol which is comprised of volunteer residents that act as an extra set of eyes and ears for the Police. Protecting the community is tough, being everywhere all the time is simply impossible. This great team of volunteers provide quality services to both the community and the Abbotsford Police Department. Block Watch

There are many active communities who participate in Block Watch. This program assists in keeping smaller crimes and nuisance activities out of neighbourhoods and provides a safer community for families. The Block Watch is as simple as a community coming together, posting Block Watch signs and reporting suspicious activity to the authorities. Say NO to Crime in Your Neighbourhood and participate in the Block Watch program!
